Researchers Reveal Male Dance Moves That Attract Women
by Frank James
Newsflash: scientists have discovered that women like men who dance really well.
Don't be snarky. This is serious science we're talking about here.
Of course, dancing well is a relative term. So what does it really mean to dance well enough as a man to gain the interest of women?
According to some researchers who've just published their research in the journal Biology Letters of the Royal Society, it means none of those herky jerky movements prone to frighten children and small dogs.
And none of those repetitive dance moves that bore even the person performing them.
Instead, by using motion-capture technology to record the movements of 19 dancing men and create faceless avatars of them which were then shown 39 women, the researched found the following according to their research article's abstract:
Linear regression subsequently revealed that three movement measures were key predictors of dance quality; these were variability and amplitude of movements of the neck and trunk, and speed of movements of the right knee.In other words, men, let Michael Jackson be your guide. You especially might want to try his patented right-leg kick.
The researchers' leading theory is that any man who dances like a hip-hop artist is giving off vibes of virility. Sounds logical.
Still, I must admit, I don't see the problem with that bad-dance avatar. I could have been the model for that guy.
I prefer to think of his moves as refined and self-assured.

Pharrell Williams: Soundtrack of my life
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/sep/05/pharrell-williams-soundtrack-of-my-life
The N*E*R*D and Neptunes frontman on why he owes his existence to Earth, Wind and Fire, and how he 'lost his mind' when he first heard A Tribe Called Quest
Pharrell Williams was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1973. He formed the Neptunes with school friend Chad Hugo in the early 90s. By the early 00s they had worked with the likes of Jay-Z and Britney Spears and had several smash hits, including Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U" and Nelly's "Hot In Herre". Williams and Hugo also have their own group, N*E*R*D, with fellow school friend Shay Haley.
N*E*R*D's single "Hot N Fun" is out next week, and a fourth studio album, Nothing, will follow later in the year. "It was inspired by a billboard I used to walk past when I was working on the Despicable Me score," says Williams. "It was a poster for a spaghetti western and I wondered what that would sound like with an 808 on it."
WHEN I WAS A BABY
Earth, Wind and Fire, "Can't Hide Love" (1975)
I was raised on Earth, Wind and Fire. "Can't Hide Love" [from the LP Gratitude] was the first record that influenced my life. My mom and dad used to play this song a lot when I was a kid. That song changed me as a kid. I think that's what made me a singer. In fact Earth, Wind and Fire are probably what made me, full stop – that's baby-making music, man!
THE RECORD MY AUNT USED TO PLAY ME
Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life (1976)
My aunt used to play this record a lot. Two songs in particular – "I Wish" and "Summer Soft". When I heard him sing, "And so you want to see what she'll do/ Is it sun or rain for you/ But it breaks your heart in two/ When you find it's October/ And she's gone…" then I was just done. That was me getting older.
THE FIRST PERFORMANCE I REMEMBER
The Jacksons, "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" (1978)
I remember watching them on television when I was really young, when that record came out. Did it influence my vocal style? I can't sing like him. I think my vocal style is just what I could scram together. The Thriller album also changed my life. "Billie Jean" changed my life. The songs I wrote for Justin Timberlake's album [Justified], I originally wrote for Michael Jackson, although we modified them a bit. I told Michael that, and he was like, "You're kidding me! You're kidding me! That's so wonderful!" Then he sang it in Justin's style. He could sing just like Justin, just like R Kelly. Michael was one of the most incredible performers of all time, and he was also by far one of the best beatboxers ever.
WHEN I WAS A BREAKDANCER
Afrika Bambaataa & the Soul Sonic Force, "Planet Rock" (1982)
This record changed my life. It was a phenomenon. The whole neighbourhood was playing it on boomboxes. I didn't understand what the hell it was. It was like some space shit. Then, just after "Planet Rock", there was Run-DMC's "It's Like That". Those two records were incredible. And Art of Noise ["Beat Box"]. I was a breakdancer back then. I didn't know I was going to be musician at that stage.
WHEN I FIRST STARTED MAKING MUSIC
A Tribe Called Quest, "Bonita Applebum" (1990)
"Bonita Applebum" was the first single from the album [People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm], and my friend in Virginia got hold of a copy of it. I was so amazed by that record that I lost my mind. I didn't know what it was, I was like, "Oh my god!". I played it day in, day out. Every girl I dated had to listen to it over and over late at night and we had to have nightly discussions about it. We needed to talk about how it took us to other worlds. Those girls are all probably laughing right now, thinking: Damn, he was a musician, but didn't know it! That's why we had to do all that dumb shit and talk about it all night! Because I'd be like, "You have to listen to this! If you don't listen to this, we're finished!". After "Bonita Applebum" I went to the other side, and started making music rather than just listening.
THE LAST RECORD THAT BLEW ME AWAY
Daft Punk, Tron Legacy Theme (2010)
The Daft Punk trailer for Tron: Legacy is amazing. I was very jealous when I heard that. I told them so to their faces when I last saw them. The whole production and the mentality that came along with that was amazing.

Appeals court sets hearing for Joe Jackson's Appeal
Involving Michael's Estate
By Anthony McCartney (CP) – 9/01/2010
LOS ANGELES
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — An appeals court has scheduled a hearing for lawyers for the father of Michael Jackson to argue that he deserves a role in decisions involving his son's multimillion dollar estate.
The Second District Court of Appeal said Thursday the appeal by Joe Jackson would be heard on Oct. 6.
In November, the elder Jackson challenged a ruling by a state judge that the estate would be run by attorney John Branca and music executive and family friend John McClain. The men had been designated in the singer's 2002 will to administer his estate.
The will omitted Joe Jackson — in effect denying him any stipend or decision-making authority.
"I think it's an important issue for all fathers around the country and around the world that when their child dies they should have a say-so in their child's estate," said attorney Brian Oxman, who represents Joe Jackson.
Attorney Howard Weitzman, who represents the estate, said the administrators were meeting all obligations to the beneficiaries named in the will. "As I've said before, Mr. Jackson's appeal is not well taken," Weitzman said.
The singer's estate has earned tens of millions of dollars since the singer's death at age 50 in June 2009.
Joe Jackson is also pursuing a federal wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death. Authorities contend Murray, a cardiologist, gave the singer a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol. The costs of the wrongful death lawsuit should be paid by Michael Jackson's estate, Oxman said.
The estate is not a party to the lawsuit.

Akala (please give him a chance, everyone?)
I don't expect people outside of the UK to know him. I don't expect anyone outside of the UK Hip Hop scene to know him too. But...
Akala is a UK rapper. A rapper that believes what the mainstream industry supports is wrong for the listeners of all ages and generally doesnt think its acceptable to have children these days grow up around this sort of stuff. His lyrics will touch on the government, racism, prejudices, society, wars/civil wars.
He really is intelligent, hes a big fan of poetry, he has the nickname "Black Shakespeare". For me he has produced the album of the year so far in 2010. He has his stance of being himself for the people and isnt willing to follow a crowd to hit that BIG paycheck.
I really hope people, can give this a listen to, even if your not a fan of hip hop, just listen to the lyrics. I think it would be cool to use a live version of this song...
